Living your Best Life with Functional Neurological Disorder

Welcome

When I was first diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (then known as Conversion Disorder) many years ago, I felt so alone and so defective. This was pre-Facebook and the internet was still in its infancy. I was the only person I’d ever heard of with these wacky symptoms. When I got better, I promised myself that I would do whatever I could to help anyone else with this disorder to not feel so alone.

In the past few years I’ve met a number of people with FND. I’m in Facebook support groups with thousands of them. In many ways, it’s a better time to have FND.

In other ways, not much has improved. There are still no treatment protocols, and no consensus on what causes this disorder and how to make it better. Patients are still sometimes horribly mistreated by those who are supposed to be helping them.

This blog is the story of my journey with Functional Neurological Disorder. I’m hoping that some of the lessons I’ve learned will be helpful to someone else. My story is the only story that I know intimately. Even if the techniques that worked for me don’t work for you, I hope that you will draw hope and inspiration to create your own path to wellness.

We are all different- different stories, different symptoms, different needs…yet we all struggle with the same glitch in our brains. Let’s work together and figure out how to live the best life we possibly can in spite of FND.
